Engineering that Thinks Ahead

Precision for Research.

Our electronics deliver it.

The Challenge:

In research and development, electronic systems must do more than simply function – they must deliver the highest precision, maximum reliability, and absolute adaptability.

Whether in the laboratory, in field trials, or in large-scale facilities: when signals are inaccurate or systems are unreliable, not only is scientific progress at risk – but often also time, budget, and safety.

This is exactly where TeraTron comes in.

Our Solution:

For over 25 years, TeraTron has been developing and manufacturing electronic systems used in highly sensitive research environments – for example in:

  • Laboratory Control and Experimental Systems
  • Access & Area Control Systems
  • Tracking and positioning systems (e.g., for evacuation planning or personnel flow management)
  • Robust electronics for electromagnetically demanding environments
  • Custom embedded systems for existing research infrastructures

Our solutions are modular, long-term available, and customizable down to the PCB level – developed and manufactured in Germany.

Your benefits with TeraTron:

Maximum Precision for Measurement, Control, and Analysis

Long-lasting hardware – designed for 20+ years of operation

Wide range of interfaces: CAN, RS485, Ethernet, and more

Data protection compliant and secure – even for personnel tracking

Made in Germany – development, production & support from Gummersbach

Personal Project Support – From Concept to Series Production

Proven in Practice –

Even Under Extreme Conditions.

Our electronic solutions are already in use at leading research institutions – for example, for precise access control in radiation-active areas or for locating personnel and equipment in hard-to-access experimental facilities.

Example Reference Projects:

In collaboration with DESY Hamburg, our systems are used in environments with high electromagnetic exposure and the most stringent safety requirements.

For energy-related testing environments, such as those at Uniper, we have implemented flexible, network-independent tracking solutions.
The technology operates reliably – even in environments where many other systems fail.

Our Mission:

Advancing Research Through Technology.

We believe that research needs partners, not standard products. That is why we do not develop off-the-shelf electronics, but precise solutions that integrate seamlessly into your infrastructure – scalable, durable, and future-proof.

Whether you want to integrate a single laboratory device or equip an entire experimental facility – we support you from the initial concept through to long-term support.

Electronic Solutions

for Research Institutions

Modern research places the highest demands on technology, data quality, and infrastructure. In scientific institutions, laboratories, research institutes, and industrial R&D departments, electronic solutions are required that are precisely tailored to specific requirements. This is exactly where TeraTron GmbH from Gummersbach has been supporting national and international research partners for over 25 years with custom electronics for a wide range of applications.

Whether access control for radiation-sensitive areas, tracking and location systems for personnel and equipment, embedded electronics for laboratory control, or robust control systems for experimental facilities: TeraTron provides individually developed hardware and software solutions specifically designed for use in research environments.

Custom Research Electronics – No Off-the-Shelf Solutions

Every research institution is unique. Whether a Max Planck Institute, a university laboratory, particle accelerators such as DESY Hamburg, industrial research environments at companies like Uniper, or specialized energy research centers – standard solutions are rarely sufficient. TeraTron therefore develops custom electronic systems precisely tailored to specific experimental setups, environmental conditions, and security requirements.

By using long-life components, flexible interfaces (e.g., CAN bus, RS485, Modbus, Ethernet, PoE), and modular software solutions, systems can be seamlessly integrated and operated reliably over many years.

A key application area is tracking and location technology. In many research facilities, it must be possible to determine at any time who was present where and when – for example in radiation-protected areas, during safety-critical experiments, or in laboratories with special access regulations.

TeraTron offers GDPR-compliant location tracking solutions that do not perform continuous monitoring but operate based on events and defined zones. The technology has been implemented, among others, at DESY and enables positioning accuracy of 1–3 meters, even under challenging environmental conditions such as high electromagnetic interference.

Development, Manufacturing & Support – All Made in Germany

A key advantage: TeraTron develops and manufactures all systems in Germany at its Gummersbach site. This allows customers to benefit from high quality standards, short response times, technical contacts at eye level, and a transparent, auditable production process.

Long-Term Availability & Data Security

Research projects often run for many years or even decades. TeraTron ensures long-term availability of hardware and software, documented product histories, and technological continuity. At the same time, all systems meet the highest data protection standards – from simple access control to personnel localization in emergency situations.

Typical Application Areas for TeraTron Electronics in Research:

    • Research Laboratories & Universities
    • Particle Physics & Large-Scale Research Facilities (e.g., DESY)
    • Energy Testing Environments & Industrial R&D (e.g., Uniper)
    • Security-Sensitive Areas with Strict Access Requirements
    • Specialized Facilities with Electromagnetic Interference
